After disassembly and inspection, it looks like the DSMpartout 1G is done for the remainder of 2011. Sucks, but the deck surface of the engine block was damaged with the blown HG/head and needs to be resurfaced. With it being this late in the season, Im just going to call it done and start taking the car apart for it’s yearly winter makeover & modification treatment.
Here is the indentation in the block that will cause a bad HG seal, and likely torch the cyl head again if I tried to just slap it together and go run:
I just wanted to make note that Im having some issues with inventory control that are causing a few headaches. Seems the online inventory #’s aren’t matching up with what I actually have on hand coupled with the fact that there is some actual inventory physically gone missing or sold to local guys that has not been properly updated to the online inventory control. It seems like the majority of discrepancies are in the GVR4 oem parts, especially electronics and little stuff.
Please just be aware that there is a chance that an order might need to be refunded or only partially fulfilled in the event an item is out of stock.
PLEASE contact me via email or txt to check stock if there is a rush for delivery or you just want to be sure.
PLEASE don’t go taking your car apart before recieving an item from me, then go ballistic when I don’t have the part, and it screws up your schedule & transportation.
Really, this shouldn’t be a giant deal for 90% of the items for sale on the site, but just wanted to put it out there.
Was able to knock off a decent 11.37 @ 116 pass on the stock turbo, which is the quickest an AWD car has seen with the tiny 14b compressor. Then I decided to try out the nitrous kit again, with bad results. Im going to try and slap another cyl head on and get the car back to the track in October for yet another attempt to make a clean pass with the n20 kit. Im shooting for 10.60 or quicker with the nitrous kit on in order to take the overall stock turbo dsm record. Realistically, I just need to make a clean pass with no issues. The potential is clearly there, just need to get it done with no mistakes or problems.
My buddy GizmoVR4 and I trying to test out the nitrous kit on the 1g racecar to verify we had nitrous and fuel on all 4 cyl. While the test was not at all verifiably accurate, it was pretty funny!
Took the car out with a stock 2g head/cams to try and sort it out a bit. Ended up running as expected on the 14b alone, but when we tried to use the nitrous kit, it ended up torching the exh valves on cyl #3. At the time I had assumed the failure was due to crazy EGT, as the ignition timing was stupid stupid low (my tuning fault).
EDIT: Sep 21. Turns out that the fuel jet on cyl #3 in the nitrous kit was plugged with debris. This exh valve failure was likely due to being super lean in this hole.
After a long spring of assembling the car from scratch again, it finally was ready to make some test runs. Since last year the entire engine is changed, the wiring in the car has been 100% changed, along with literally every part of the turbo/nitrous system changing. We’ve address most of the issues that held the car back in 2010:
Moved up to 1650 injectors to facilitate methanol fuel with some tuning headroom
NOS direct port nitrous kit to insure even distribution w/ a much larger hit possible
external wastegate and improved methods of tuning launch/boost
Unfortunately, while clocking the E3 16g we ran last year to better fit the ic pipes, the comp wheel/housing was found to be making contact. turbo is junk. So a 14b made a good replacement for a temp solution. So we’re rocking the Stock Turbo for a while and going to try and chase down the 14b records currently held by Joe Bucci of Project Goodwill 1G FWD fame.
10.841 @ 126.63 is the current record for 14b without nitrous. This is going to be extremely hard to beat with a heavier automatic awd platform.
10.610 @ 131.79 is the w/ nitrous overall record. I’v got a feeling this can be knocked off rather quickly. It should only take 122-123mph to go 10.60 in the auto/awd with a 1.4 launch and we’re seeing 112mph on a 90*+ day w/ sticky humidity on a “guestimate” tune. Throwing 125hp of nitrous at it should put us right in the ballpark for power to beat this record.
EDIT: Sep 21 2011:
Vac line ripped off the map sensor in 4th gear and it leaned out, detonated, and broke a spark plug porcelain. The spark plug chunks munched up the exhaust valve seats on cyl #2. Ended up throwing a stock 2g head/cams on after this weekend and took it out in June to run again: see result/video above.
Unfortunately, I have to report that myself and my children have had the flu/stomach virus (one person after another) for the last full week, and now it looks like heading into this week It’s my turn. Just wanted to let any customers know that shipping and part pulling may be delayed by a couple days while I’m stuck in the house (staying close to the bathroom!)
The next car being torn down: 1997 GSX eclipse with heavy mods. Built motor, 20G, ETS FMIC, DSMlink, fuel mods, Omni coilovers, Evo8 wheels, and all the typical support mods. The chassis has 160k miles, I have yet to assess the rust condition and decide to either part it completely or sell the rolling chassis shell. The parts from this car should be showing up on the shopping cart this week.
Picked up a 91 AWD Talon, black – manual trans for parts today. It’s mostly stock, and unfortunately the chassis is very rusted. Engine/drivetrain are supposed to be in good condition and the electronics are all working. It will likely be a week or two until this car goes under the knife, likely mid march.
